Pier Giorgio has been a powerful witness in my own faith life. His dedication to prayer has been influential in my own spiritual life. Yes, Pier Giorgio was a popular and charismatic young man, but the source of this personality was deeply rooted in a love of Jesus in the Eucharist. From this wellspring, Pier Giorgio evangelized the love of Christ in the world through actions that often spoke louder than words. He was a true missionary, a true disciple, a true man who lived in the world but was not of it. He is a model of virtue that men today, including myself, can look to for encouragement, inspiration, and hope. His canonization would not so much change the way in which he is so dearly viewed, but rather give him an honor that he has humbly earned through his commitment to Jesus and His Bride, the Church.
